Daeshim rings his bell in response, taking everything out of the basket in a hurry to join him. He pauses when he reaches them, taking a peek at the baby.
"She looks happy and hale. You and your wolf should be proud."
"I'm fine. Jasper's baked goods are so light and airy, they practically float!"
He carries everything into the kitchen, placing things here after he sits it down.
"There's no meat in the soup, but it's warm and filling. It will be thicker tomorrow, and good with bread." Daeshim stops what he's doing to come over to Sawyer again, squinting at his face. Hmm... He frowns a little at what he sees, worry and fatigue and everything else that comes with being a new parent. "Eat some now, I can hold her. And then I will slice you an apple for dessert."
Sawyer doesn't insist and lets the other carry the items. He follows along, nodding. He always likes to listen to Daeshim chatter. He's not bothered at the mention of no meat and if Bishop wants any they can figure something out later.
"Thank you," Sawyer says and honestly he could just about cry with gratefulness. He's been stubborn about asking for help or letting people help, wanting to be able to do everything himself. But Daeshim doesn't make him feel like he's failing by accepting his help.
"Okay," Sawyer agrees and he gingerly offers the baby to Daeshim. "Be careful with her head," he can't help but fuss a bit.
Sawyer is hesitant but he does trust Daeshim and the other is being very gentle with her. So he watches for a few seconds before moving to get himself a bowl. He's been trying to eat more than he usually does. He'd always had a smaller appetite than Bishop liked but it's getting better.
"Three?" Sawyer smiles and he moves to sit as well. "I'm sure they'd be very good with her if they are anything like you."
"Mm, Lennon and I should have no less than three."
Daeshim doesn't think that will be a problem, not really. Despite his lover's nervousness when it was brought up, his desire for a family is obvious. A big family is surely even better. The Fae pauses to watch Sawyer take his first bite, and he'll be even happier when another follows.
"I wish for them to take after Lennon. So beautiful that the Seelie Queen goes mad with envy!"
"Why three? and why would you want to make a Queen mad?" Sawyer asks curiously. He doesn't really know much about faeries at all, just what little he knows about Daeshim himself.
"Three is one of them most auspicious numbers. You should always try to do things in three, if you can." Daeshim nods, rocking gently to convince the baby in his arms to return to sleep when he feels like she might wake up and start to cry. "The Seelie Queen is petty and vain. She values beauty and power above all else. She bathes in the blood of doves and pins living butterflies into her hair." His disgust is obvious. At the end of the day, Daeshim is someone who values all life. "Our children will need none of that and still shine a thousand times brighter than she does!"
“Oh,” Sawyer wants to ask why it’s auspicious but he feels a bit silly asking why so many times already. He bites his lip thoughtfully and decides he’ll ask him another time. He’s never heard anyone talk about numbers that way before! He quietly continues to eat, watching Daeshim with his daughter and he’s so good with her. He starts to relax a little more, not quite as on edge as he was when he first handed her over. It’s not that he didn’t trust Daeshim — it was hard for him to hand her over to Bishop sometimes even.
“That’s cruel…” Sawyer frowns deeply as he swallows some of the soup. It is filling and he probably shouldn’t have gotten so much because he won’t be able to finish all he’d put in the bowl. “They will be wonderful, I’m sure,” he smiles and glances at Dawnya. “I hope they will grow to be good friends together.”
He doesn’t want Dawnya to ever feel alone the way he had.
It's not silly. Daeshim asks many questions. And yes, sometimes even he feels like he's asking too much, that those in the treehouse might even get tired and give up on him. It's his greatest fear. So he'd never make anyone else feel it.
"I'm sure of it." Dae even smiles a little as he looks down at the sleeping child. "Anyone who makes her cry will surely be cursed. If she doesn't bite them first!" The Fae looks up again, head tilting. "Has she shown any other qualities yet?"
Sawyer smiles at Daeshim's confidence and he continues to eat until he can't possibly eat anymore even if he tried to finish the bowl. He sets it aside for now. He'll do the dishes in a little bit. He brings his feet up onto the couch and turns sideways, head resting on the back of it. He watches the two of them and there's a tiredness that shows it's face despite his best efforts.
"No...not yet... I'm..." he exhales. "I'm a little afraid."
He knows that Hunter had mentioned the demon thing to Daeshim. So maybe he would understand.
Deashim's pleased to see that he liked his soup! Food, he thinks, is its own medicine. It will give him much-needed strength.
He hums in response, nodding his head as he looks down at her again. It's natural that Sawyer would be a little worried, especially given the circumstances. He purses his lips for a moment before speaking again.
Daeshim's voice is gentler than it normally is. He looks down at the sleeping baby in his arms again.
"You cannot change the nature of what she is." He thinks about his Unseelie blood and wonders...what if one of their children is born with dark leathery wings? Or bones on the outside? What will Lennon think? "But she will be raised in love, surrounded by it. She will be protected by the wolves and the Fae. This will be her nurturing." He looks up and offers what he hopes is a reassuring smile. "Try not to fear too much. It will be okay."
Sawyer looks a little relieved and a little bit like he might cry when the other told him that it wasn't awful. He'd not even confessed that feeling to Bishop, ashamed of his fears, really.
"Thank you," he murmurs softly and he hesitates before he scoots on the couch and he rests his head against the other's shoulder, but really makes no move to take Dawnya out of his arms. He just looks down at her. "I'm glad she'll have everything I didn't."
Daeshim knows that isn't true...technically. But it was something that was there for him, which is more than he can say for his actual parents.
"It did its best, but I will try to improve. I cannot imagine what my children will be like either. But I know that I adore them already, and Lennon will adore them, and everyone else too. They will be amazing little beasties!"
"A mushroom," Sawyer says thoughtfully and he wonders how that works.
"They will be," Sawyer nods, and he reaches out to just brush a fingertip along Dawnya's cheek.
"I think your children will be very kind," he says. "I hope Dawnya will be too," he murmurs.
He remembers the people that had had him before, he knows that some traces of what was done to him run through her veins and he can only hope that Bishop's wolf and his own love are enough to keep her safe and good and kind.
